Your December astrology blog

Earth and Saturn Sergei Tokmakov

What a year it’s been! Several highs and lows for everyone. The reason astrologically? The conjunction of Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn. This trio of planets align in Capricorn once every 500 years and have historically meant great socio-economic change; super-fast advances in learning and technology and the need to look at life on a grander scale and in a new light.

And this year, the conjunction has brought just that! What’s more, the conjunction brings out deep emotions and often the shadow side both of personal and collective consciousness.

For us all there have been revelations; discoveries about aspects of ourselves personally and the world we live in that we have not wanted necessarily to know about. Unfortunately, many of our own negative aspects as a human race, collectively, have been laid bare this year on a global scale, such as our own vulnerability and sense of impermanence (coronavirus has highlighted the human susceptibility to illness); and predisposition towards war and conflict (uprisings, demonstrations, revolutions) – which have been a reaction to feelings of being dominated and due to abuse of rights.

The more negative aspects of the human condition have been dredged up by the conjunction of Pluto, Saturn and Jupiter together, and Pluto’s influence over dredging up our fears and shadow selves has itself been magnified and exacerbated.

The good news? Once aspects we dislike in ourselves come to light, we then have the opportunity to find out more about how our minds, bodies and spirits work. On a social level, we have the opportunity to find out how we might function more wholly as a collective so that our less attractive aspects become manageable rather than subversive and self-destructive.

The big news in December is that both Jupiter and Saturn will leave Capricorn (Saturn on the 18th and Jupiter on the 20th) and then will align in Aquarius on the 22nd*. The solstice will be a turning point – for some in your personal life and for many of us collectively on a global scale. We can already see hints of the kinds of developments signified by Saturn and Jupiter in Aquarius such as the rapid development and administration (to come) of the coronavirus vaccine, space travel and digital and online development.

Aquarius being a quirky sign, we may all experience new and out of the ordinary developments later in December and going on into January. Expect new revelations to arise, and for truth to become the catch cry of 2021.

Freedom of speech and of spirit will be increasingly attractive and you may personally be drawn towards embracing an increased spirit of independence and liberty – wishing to travel, innovate and hope to experience things outside your usual terrain.

The upshot? Expect considerable change this month – and there may even be a twist in the tale of 2020. We are still in an eclipse season, and the second of two eclipses will be on December 15, in Sagittarius. This solar eclipse will spotlight the need to be more adventurous and outgoing over coming weeks.

Some astrologers believe the move of Saturn and Jupiter into Aquarius will be the start of a wonderful time of awakening and self-development. Others believe that this alignment will bring many more of the kinds of developments that occurred in 2020, such as interrupted plans and unexpected circumstances.

What is sure is this: new developments, especially in the areas of technology, travel, innovation and the digital world will change our lives in 2021. Mars in Aries will speed along developments and add to a sense of accelerated change. Be prepared for something new to be born out of the ashes of what has occurred in 2020 on a global scale.

In our personal lives, in December, it’s time to dig deep to create the best-case outcome of the various scenarios you find yourself in, not only by bringing aspects of your own shadow (or unconscious) self into the light and therefore improving yourself; but also by being prepared to think outside the square and to re-invent who you are as an effective, compassionate human being who can work together with others to overcome all aspects of the negative sides of yourselves that you dislike, both on a personal and on a larger, social, collective scale. A big task? Nothing that can’t be tackled in small steps!

Wishing you all a happy festive season, a fab solstice, a very Merry Christmas, and all the best for 2021, Patsy x

* All dates are in Eastern Australian Daylight Time

* The conjunction will be visible in all areas, for the first time in 800 years. Jupiter and Saturn align approximately every 20 years, but are not always visible.

‘Alignments between these two planets are rather rare, occurring once every 20 years or so,’ said astronomer Patrick Hartigan of Rice University of Houston, Texas.
‘But this conjunction is exceptionally rare because of how close the planets will appear to one another,’ he explained.
‘You’d have to go all the way back to just before dawn on March 4, 1226, to see a closer alignment between these objects visible in the night sky.’
